Privacy Policy
Effective 14 August 2026
TripLuv ("we", "us", "our") is a travel planning, expense-splitting and journaling app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using TripLuv, you agree to the practices described here.
01 Information we collect
Account information
- Name, email address and phone number (when provided)
- Profile photo (avatar), if you upload one
- Sign-in method — email/password or Google Sign-In
Trip and travel information
- Trip destinations, dates, budgets and itineraries you create
- Group trip membership and invitations
- Travel preferences — home city, travel style, companions and interests, used to personalise AI trip suggestions and cost estimates
Expense and settlement information
- Expenses you or your group members log, including amounts, categories and how they're split
- Settlement records — who paid whom, and how (UPI, cash, bank transfer). TripLuv only records that a settlement happened; it does not process or move money itself
Journal content
- Journal entries, notes and photos you add to your travel journal
Device and usage information
- Basic device information (device type, OS version) used for compatibility and troubleshooting
02 How we use your information
- To provide core app functionality — trip planning, expense splitting, journaling
- To generate AI-powered itinerary suggestions and cost estimates (via Google Gemini — see section 3)
- To let you share trips and split expenses with group members you invite
- To send you notifications you've opted into, such as budget alerts
- To maintain and improve the app, and to fix bugs
03 Third-party services we use
TripLuv relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy practices:
- Supabase — our backend provider, used for authentication, database storage and file storage (photos and avatars).
- Google Sign-In — optional sign-in method. If used, Google shares your basic profile information (name, email) with us per your consent.
- Google Gemini AI — used to generate itinerary suggestions and cost estimates based on your trip details (destination, dates, preferences). We do not send your expense amounts, journal photos or contact details to this service.
- Hotel search and booking partners — when you use Find Hotels, pricing data is retrieved from a third-party hotel data provider. Tapping a booking option opens that provider's website in your browser; TripLuv is not responsible for what happens on their site, and may earn a referral commission on completed bookings (see our Terms of Service).
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
04 Who can see your data
- Members you invite to a group trip can see that trip's shared details, expenses and settlements — not your other trips.
- Our service providers (section 3) process data on our behalf under their own confidentiality and security obligations.
- We may disclose information if required by law.
05 Data retention & deletion
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete Account. This action cannot be undone.
What is permanently erased
- Your name, email address, phone number and profile photo
- Your travel preferences — home city, travel style, companions, interests and nationality
- Your UPI ID
- Your journal entries and all photos you uploaded
- Any comments and edit history you wrote
- Your login credentials — the account can no longer be used to sign in
- Trips you created that nobody else was part of, and everything in them
What is kept, and why
If you shared a trip with other people, your expense entries and settlement records in that trip are kept, with your name replaced by "Deleted user".
This is deliberate. Group expenses are a shared record: your friends' balances are calculated from the same entries as yours. If your share were removed, their totals would no longer add up and money would appear to be owed to nobody. Keeping the entries — with every piece of personal information stripped out — is what allows the people you travelled with to keep an accurate account of their own money.
What remains is an anonymous financial record. It holds no name, email, phone number, photo or any other detail that identifies you.
If you own a group trip that other members are still using, ownership passes to another member so the trip isn't destroyed for them.
06 Your rights
You can access and update most of your information directly in the app (Profile → Edit). You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete specific information, by contacting us (section 10).
07 Children's privacy
TripLuv is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
08 Security
We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections and access controls — to protect your data, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
09 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
